Curatorial Statement

All Bodies Everywhere celebrates the 10-year anniversary of All Bodies Dance Project’s (ABDP) inclusive and community-engaged work in an exhibition takeover at the Roundhouse Community Arts & Recreation Centre. 

 

“What is dance?” and “Who gets to dance?” are ongoing questions that ABDP has been asking for over a decade. Through a series of activations placed in the “in-between spaces” of the community centre, All Bodies Everywhere challenges pre-conceived ideas about who is a dancer and what contemporary dance looks like. The exhibition spotlights the beauty of diverse bodies and minds in movement and depicts innovative community dance shaped by commitment to inclusion and accessibility. 

Within the photographed and illustrative series, Move with Us in the Windows and Moments of Performance Banners, All Bodies Everywhere showcases images from both public performances and behind the scenes moments. These images depict collective joy, radiant energy, and free expression. Through video projection, memory embedded photographs, and playful window displays; All Bodies Everywhere highlights embodied connections between diverse artists, participants, dancers, and audiences. 

ABDP’s practice is guided by values for inclusion, accessibility, artistry, community, and care. This exhibition honours and celebrates all the individual bodies and minds that have contributed to the company over the past ten years and the collective learning that lives in this incredible community of movers.
